Does Weed Help With Period Cramps?

Flo Dispensary

Period pain is often treated as though it's an unavoidable part of life for women. Cramps and other symptoms can interfere with normal activities and, in severe cases, even be debilitating. Doctors don't have many reliable answers for these problems, but many women have found relief from weed.

Science is still catching up on understanding how cannabis works in the body, but research suggests that it helps in unique ways. At Flo Dispensary, we love to help our customers find products that will help them feel their best. Here are some facts about how weed might help period pain and what strains may work best.

The role of cannabis in pain relief

Two subjects that are understudied in the scientific community are period pan and how cannabis affects the body. However, there is some research being done on the topic of weed and menstrual symptoms. What's even more compelling is the mountain of anecdotal evidence from women who say that it works for them.

One of the issues that makes it difficult to pin down how weed works on menstrual pain is that this problem can have several different sources. Women may experience pain due to endometriosis, fibroids, a genetic condition, or pelvic inflammatory disease. It's a complex problem, and medical science can't satisfactorily explain why so many women suffer. This makes it difficult to pin down exactly how weed could be helping or why it relieves pain.

What scientists do know is that cannabinoids, such as THC and CBD, work differently than medications such as ibuprofen. Instead of blocking the production of prostaglandins in the body, cannabinoids seem to reduce nerve inflammation. At the same time, they boost the release of dopamine in the brain, so pain relief is coupled with an elevated mood.

While the science behind using weed to treat period pain isn't clear yet, many women are convinced: it helps them feel better. Women report that weed use not only reduces their pain but also improves the emotional/mental symptoms they have, such as anger, irritability, anxiety, and mood swings. It also helps them sleep better, which is a huge benefit for overall well-being.

What cannabis strains help with period cramps?

If you're ready to see if weed can give you the relief you've been searching for, the first step is to figure out what strain is right for you. To help you narrow down the options, it helps to understand that cannabis strains fall into one of three categories, and they each have different effects on the body.

Sativa strains generally have higher levels of THC and lower CBD. These strains typically produce a stronger mental effect, to relax you and reduce anxiety. They're also good for pain relief, so if you're suffering from cramps and foggy thinking, opt for a sativa strain, such as White Rhino.

Indica strains have a higher CBD content, making them excellent at helping you relax and sleep deeply. They calm and soothe the body, making them a good choice to deal with achy discomfort. Sour Diesel is a good Indica strain for menstrual problems.

Hybrid strains combine the best of both types. The amount of THC and CBD varies, depending on the specific hybrid, so you may have to experiment a little to find the one that hits the mark for you. Two hybrid strains that people like for menstrual problems are Blue Dream and Pineapple Express.

Rosin and resin are both concentrates that can be made from cannabis plant material, and it is important to understand the difference between the two. They are both potent extracts that preserve the plant's natural resin at its peak freshness by using low temperatures during extraction and also by immediately freezing the buds at the time of harvest. The key difference is in the method of production. Live resin is produced through a method of extraction based on solvents, while live rosin uses a solventless process that uses only heat and pressure to squeeze out the resin. What Is Live Rosin? Live rosin is a solventless cannabis concentrate that is created by applying heat and pressure to fresh or dried cannabis material. It offers a more refined representation of the plant, and while the extraction is time-consuming, it results in a much more complex flavor profile. Which One Gets You Higher? When it comes time for anyone to decide between rosin and resin, it is only natural that one of the first things they want to know is which one will get them higher. Potency is an important factor to consider, so everyone should keep in mind that live resin is slightly more potent than live rosin. The reason for this is due to the more intricate extraction procedure that resin undergoes. The maximum amount of THC is able to be extracted from each batch of resin, mostly due to the use of solvents. Although live resin is known for getting you higher than live rosin, some find that live rosin is an option when live rosin is just too potent. How to Store Rosin & Resin Different storage solutions are required for different concentrates. Live rosin should be kept away from extreme or fluctuating temperatures. An environment that is too hot or too cold will lead to degradation and cause the rosin to oxidize. Always be sure to keep rosin in an airtight container, stored in a cool, dark place away from any heat sources. It can also be kept in the refrigerator on a short-term basis and in the freezer for long-term storage. Resin needs to be kept in a cool, dark, and dry place and stored in an airtight container with limited exposure to air, light, and moisture. Consider using a POP VAC jar, which is both airtight and opaque. The minimal exposure to light keeps the resin as fresh and flavorful as possible. Is Rosin Better Than Resin? As we know, live resin is slightly more potent than rosin. On the other hand, rosin is less restricted and easier to acquire. Many people consider resin to be of a better quality due to its method of extraction. It is widely agreed that what makes resin the more favorable choice is that it is richer in flavor, scent, and potency than many other types of cannabis extract. Comparing Costs? Live resin is one of the most potent and highest-quality concentrates that you'll find, and most people are pleasantly surprised to learn that it is less costly than live rosin. Why is this? Well, the market demand for the product, as well as the continuous refinement of the extraction process, is what makes it much more cost-effective to produce, therefore making it more affordable to the consumer.
